Turkish Firm to Launch Mega-Housing Project in Angola

A Turkish construction firm will launch a mega-housing project in Angola, marking the largest social housing project in the southwestern African nation. A total of 10,000 allinclusive residences for Angolan teachers are set to be built by Onsan Group, a Turkish construction firm which has been operating more than 40 years.

“We signed a protocol with the Angolan government to build these residences,” company chief Fikri Coşkun told Anadolu Agency, adding that the total investment for the project would be $520 million. We will invite [Turkish President] Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the groundbreaking ceremony [for the housing project] which will take place this year,” said Coskun.

Coskun said they were heartily welcomed by Angolan officials when they arrived.

“Angolans love Turkish people,” he said, stressing that the country appreciated the investments.

President of Niger Meets with Turkish Ambassador in Niamey

Nigerian President Issoufou Mahamadou and Turkey’s Ambassador to Niger Mustafa Ari Turker met on Wednesday in Niamey for cooperation between Niger and Turkey, the Nigerian presidency said in a statement posted on its website.

The Turkish diplomat has exposed, on occasion, the latest developments in cooperation between the two countries, announcing that the “hospital of the Turkish-Nigerian Friendship”, will soon be operational, said the same source.

The Turkish diplomat and the Nigerian president also discussed other issues related to bilateral cooperation, including the modernization of the international airport Diori Hamani Niamey and the construction of a 5-star hotel by the Turkish company SUMMA, reports the Nigerian presidency.

Relations between Turkey and Niger have consolidated since 2012 with the opening of the Turkish Embassy in Niger. They were reinforced in 2013, with the opening of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) Office and the launch of Turkish Airlines flights, with five weekly flights between Niamey and Istanbul.

Turkey Supports Common History Works in Ethiopia

Works related to the history of Ethiopia, Islam and the Ottoman Empire will be exhibited in the culture center in a 100-year-old Ottoman consulate building restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in the province of Harar. Turkey’s Maarif Foundation, in cooperation with Ethiopia’s Culture Ministry has initiated projects in Addis Ababa, Harar and Mekele. In this respect, many Islamic and Ottoman history records, manuscripts and epitaphs in Sherif Harar City Museum have been collected and will be exhibited in the culture center to be opened in Harar and have also been transferred to digital mediums.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), the director of Turkey’s Maarif Foundation in Ethiopia, Levent Şahin, said an agreement was signed between Turkey and Ethiopia a year ago to improve the culture and educational activities between the two countries. Noting that they prepared projects for improving education in Ethiopia as a foundation, Şahin said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attaches importance to the development of relations with Ethiopia. The owner of Sherif Harar City Museum, Abdullah Ali Sherif, noted that he turned a historical house into a museum about 30 years ago and founded a museum by collecting artifacts that demonstrated the history of Ethiopia, Islam and the Ottoman Empire.
