Several People Protested Against the Constitutional Amendment in Guinea

Demonstrators worry that President Alpha Conde plans to make changes to stay in power in the constitution. At least five people lost their lives in calls for a constitutional amendment that could allow President Alpha Conde to work for a third term.

Police opened fire in the capital with clashes of demonstrators, and Conakry, who protested in the opposition city of Mamou in the east of the capital, also intensified on Monday.

According to the Guinea Human Rights Defense Organization (OGDH), at least four protesters were killed in Conakry.

Amnesty International Amnesty International said it condemned four deaths in the capital and called on security forces to refrain from using excessive and lethal force, and called on officials to release arbitrary arrests for protests.
