The Militant Socialist Movement won more than half of the seats in parliament and began its a five-year term of office.

57-year-old Jugnauth became prime minister in 2017 when his father resigned. And he introduced a minimum wage system to test and improve wealth distribution.

Mauritius expects its economy, which is dependent on tourism and financial services, to grow by 3.8% this year and 4.1% next year. Analysts expect economic diversity to continue, regardless of who won the election.
