Laurent Gbagbo’s former right-hand man in Ivory Coast Charles Blé Goudé was elected
president of his party on Sunday showing presidential ambition.
Charles Blé Goudé the former leader of the Young Patriots of Côte d’Ivoire recently acquitted of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC), was elected as leader of his party on Sunday (August 18th) after a first congress in Abidjan.
“Charles Blé Goudé was elected unanimously by the 1,250 delegates president of the Cojep for four years”, according to the conclusions of the first regular congress of the party born of the movement of this close to former President Laurent Gbagbo who himself has ambitions Presidential.
“The delegates brought me to the head of the Cojep. I can take full responsibility for that. My priority is peace and reconciliation for the daughters and sons of Côte d’Ivoire,” Charles Blé Goudé, reached by telephone from Abidjan in The Hague, where he has been living since his acquittal by the ICC, told AFP pending a possible appeal by the prosecutor.
