Gabon celebrated the national holiday marking the 59th anniversary of independence on Saturday (August 17th) with official ceremonies and a military parade in the presence of President Ali Bongo as highlights in the morning.
This is one of the president’s few public appearances ten months after his stroke.
The parade took place in the late morning and was set like the hands of a watch. Ali Bongo, suit and tie, his face barred by dark glasses, arrived standing on his command-car.
Leaning on a cane, he descended gently and with great care, under the supervision of his guard.
