Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba announced Tuesday the dismissal of his vicepresident Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou, as well as that of the Minister of Forests and the Environment, Guy Bertrand Mapangou.

The post of Vice President of the Republic had been restored in 2017 and entrusted to Mr. Maganga Moussavou, an opponent of Ali Bongo, unfortunate candidate for the presidential election of 2016.

The presidency did not give any details on the reasons for these dismissals, but calls for the resignation of Mr. Mapangou had multiplied in recent days in the press and civil society Gabonese, in the wake of “kévazingogate”, a precious wood trafficking business banned from exploitation.
