Overview of The African Elections of 2019

Twenty-four national elections are to be held in Africa in 2019. This reflects an established standard that elections are now the accepted method of selecting African leaders. The quality of these elections continues to vary widely, some of them simply routine rituals allowing leaders to remain in power.

Nevertheless, a whole series of competitive elections will be held in Africa in 2019, including three of the most important democratic experiences underway on the continent: Nigeria, South Africa and Tunisia.

More than half of today’s conflicts in Africa are a direct consequence of legitimacy litigation,
including leaders who remain in power after the legislated two-term limit.

Center for Africa Studies (AFRAM) which located in Ankara, is an organization facilitating under the administration of African Affairs Council (AFAC).
