The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved a $ 21 million loan to help Nigeria upgrade its damaged electricity transmission and distribution network.

The Bank said on Friday (November 29th) it will support the construction of four 330 kV dual-circuit transmission lines and substations across the country with a credit to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Nigeria privatized most of the electricity sector in 2013 but did not give up control of the monopoly network operated by TCN. Most of the country’s electricity production is supplied from gas-fired thermal power plants.
